About the Artist
Sonya McAlister’s current work reflects the idea that the understanding and healing at the heart of connection has the ability to guide us to answers that will support the health and longevity of nature. Her work is rooted in themes of connection, temporality, perception and experience. Sonya’s primary mediums are painting, drawing, printmaking and installation.
The artist is based out of Victoria, TX and spends her summers working in Los Angeles, CA. Her work has recently been selected by some of the following Curators: Jessica Beck: Milton Fine Curator of Art at The Andy Warhol Museum, Steven Wong: Curator at LA Municipal Gallery and former Director/Curator at the Chinese American Museum, Jared Steffensen: Artist and Curator at MOCA Utah. She has participated in International Art Fairs such as Aqua and SCOPE during Basel in Miami, Florida.
Sonya received her MFA from University of Florida and did her undergraduate work at Ringling School of Art and Design and Mars Hill University. She currently works as an Assistant Professor of Art at Victoria College in Victoria, TX.
